Hi lovelies, I am over at the Sarah Raven blog, Garlic and Sapphire today, talking about one of my favourite garden stalwarts, alliums. If you haven't tried growing them and want some low/no maintenance, drop dead gorgeous glamour of the pink-purple-white variety in your garden from about May to September, then alliums are your new best friend. There are a bunch of different ones I rely on for different sizes and colours, so pop over for some top tips and photos by way of a guide. You can still plant them now for a display to knock your socks off in 2013. ReplyDeleteI noticed a lot of people growing them in Oxfordshire and Vancouver. Actually, in Vancouver, there's a really great little garden tour called Art in the Garden. It happens at the end of May and the aliums seem to be the stars of the show. I've bought about 20 bulbs...those huge fireworks looking ones...to grow for next year in Vancouver, and, when I get back to Northmoor I'll buy some for my garden there. It seems that they're easy to grow, so fingers crossed. :)

ReplyDeletere.fairs: Yes, the come-down is dreadful, no you're not alone! It is a superhuman effort to get all your wares packed, unpacked, staged, sold, smiling all the while and then do the whole shebang in reverse!
So brilliant you are involved with garlic and sapphire,so happy for you. As for those alliums I am having a crush on the new white Silverspring with rose coloured centres...heaven. Glad you reminded me as I don't have any here.
